Eating Cake Has Benefits
Hey cake lovers, I know you've been dying to hear from me...well safe to say I was busy doing some other things...lol . So today let's talk about the Benefits of eating Cake ; sure you would say did you just read that right YES!!! Cake has health benefits, it ain't all that bad you know especially all these our " FITFARM PEOPLE" lol. Cakes are a mixture of lots of ingredients which contain different nutrients suitable to our bodies.
So briefly I will just mention some of the benefits of eating cake and hey if you are a food nutritionist, please feel free to add more I may have missed if any.
Anti-oxidation and blood flow
Cakes baked using the dark chocolate are great antioxidants. Oxidation is a process that takes place in the body and could lead to organ damage with time. The dark chocolate in cakes contains nutrients known as Flavanols and catechins that resist the damage caused by the oxidation process. The antioxidants protect your organs from damage. Chocolate containing cakes also help in improving the blood flow in your body. The nutrient flavanol helps in stimulating the production of Nitric Oxide which leads to arteries relaxation. Arteries that are relaxed contribute to improved blood flow and also reduce blood pressure.
Carrot cake is also another source of antioxidants to the body.
Energy
Carbohydrates are energy giving foods. The sugar and flour contained in cakes are a source of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are energy-giving foods that keep us alert for longer periods of time. Sugar is also a great carbohydrate in providing energy to the brain, muscles and the nervous system.
Improved Digestion
Fruits like apples, berries and pineapples are a good source of fiber, and some cakes are known to contain them. High-fiber diets are known to help our bodies in better digestion. Carrots also contain fiber hence carrot cakes are good for the body too. Lack of fiber in the body contributes to constipation which is uncomfortable and painful. Remember all the times you struggled in the toilet...hmmm. Regular intake of cakes containing the above named fruits and carrots will help increase the fiber level in your body thus improved digestion. In addition, fiber is also said to reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and hypertension.
Body Building
Cakes containing eggs and milk are a good source of proteins. Proteins are body-building foods thus the intake of these cakes provide the body with nutrients required for strong muscles and bones. Milk also contains calcium which is responsible for strong teeth.
Serotonin and Endorphin Levels
Cakes that come frosted with chocolates or nuts increase the serotonin and endorphin levels in the body. This literally makes us happy. This helps promote better ways of living and is great for managing anxiety.
So my dear cake lovers, whenever you are feeling guilty about taking that piece of Cake...DON'T , just because you do need all these nutrients cake gives you, now you see why I love Chocolate cakes especially.😇 The main thing you should do is control whatever you eat in the right quantity so you get the best out of it.

Meet our Cake Entrepreneur for the week
With the way the economy has been going in Nigeria, it has behoved upon us as a people to create the best out of the little we have, this week I want to introduce you to a budding cake maker who joined forces with a good friend of hers to make what is fast becoming a Confectionery that will be reckoned with in the near future. Do sit back and relax as we get to know this lovely young Lady.
Q. Good day dear, please state your name and your company name?
A. My name is Oreva Kharissa Iliromah and my company name is Larissaconfectioneries.
Q. Where are you from?
A. I'm from Delta state,Isoko precisely.
Q. Do you have a day job or is this what you do full time?
A. Yes, I have a Job asides co-running a confectionery.
Q. What inspired you to start baking?
A. Honestly,I think it was a gift I was born with...as early as age 7,I had always loved the idea of baking and cooking. Most of my toys portrayed that.
Wow, that's really nice, it's like our talents are always from when we were much younger.
Q. What is your customer base like?
A. About 30-32 regular and a few other irregular ones for now.
Q. Do you have an instagram handle?
A. Yes please, @Larissaconfectioneries
Q. What inspires you when you bake?
A. Honestly, its relative.
Q. Did you go to any catering school to learn or you learnt on your own with this age of the Internet?
A. I was well trained in a Catering Institute,I also attended and still attend several baking classes/workshops and yeah, the internet helped a lot and still helps but it's never enough alone.
Q. On an average how many cakes do you bake weekly?
A. 4; this is still low as we r trying to juggle this with day job for now.
Q. Do you by any chance make any other pastry apart from cakes?
A. Oh yeah, we make cookies, chinchin, various snacks, both Nigerian and foreign.
Q. Have you had any terrible experience with a customer, what happened and how did you get to resolve it?
A. Oh yes! That was at the very early stage when we had just one oven. it developed a fault midway baking and caused the temperature to drop which resulted in the cake sinking. It was a terrible experience as delivery time was less than an hour away. Luckily for us,we pleaded with the customer for an extra hour and pulled a miracle(long story but involved baking another) in that short time. We pacified her by giving her a discount.
Hmm, that's kind of scary, but glad it worked out just fine in the end for you both.
Q. How far do you intend to go with your baking business?
A. Oh if I tell you how far, I would scare you....it scares me too! Hahahah! I have great dreams but an even greater God so I know I would get there.
Q. Do you intend opening a catering school in the near future?
A. That's something we are working on already. Would start with baking classes before taking a step further by opening a catering institute.
That's great Oreva (Revy as I fondly call her), thank you so much for your time and an insight to your business.
Now we all know Christmas is by the corner and you sure will want something sumptuous to munch on after the whole Chicken and rice, so do feel free to contact her via the details below:

Ohhhh Cakes Mmmmm
Okay this may seem silly, but I so love cakes, my friends who know me well will tell you that you can carry me away with cakes...lol, especially if it is Chocolate Cake Mmmmm.
So what really is the history of cake?
The term "cake" has a long history. The word itself is of Viking origin, from the Old Norse word "kaka".
Early cakes in England were also essentially bread: the most obvious differences between a "cake" and "bread" were the round, flat shape of the cakes, and the cooking method, which turned cakes over once while cooking, while bread was left upright throughout the baking process

Okay so we know the origin of cake, we have different types of cakes, Sponge cake, Butter cake, Chocolate cake, Chiffon cakes, Coffee cakes etc.
Cakes are such a sweet dessert, and I will try my best to do justice to people like me who love cakes, so you know where to get just the best for you, your family, friends, Partners and loved ones alike.
My main focus will be on my favorite Chocolate Cakes. Now I'm sure you all know Chocolate is good for the body, imagine combining it in cake form and my you are in Heaven.
Chocolate cakes are butter cakes, sponge cakes, or other cakes flavored with melted chocolate or cocoa powder.German chocolate cake is a variety of chocolate cake.
Now there are two chocolate cakes I've had that literally were just the Bomb.
The first was from Goodies Supermarket and the other from Helado delica. Trust me if you have any of them and you are a lover of chocolate, you won't want to eat any form of cake again.

I remember growing up and Nigerian Cake makers were just into the normal dry and hard cakes, but when I knew things were getting better in the Nigeria Cake world was when I had a cake from Lovestruck.. O my, these guys are something else, imagine a guy baking with so many flavors and designs, it was really a nice experience and once I discovered them and told my Aunt, she never looked back. All her cakes were from them and fast forward to almost 10 years now, they are doing pretty well for themselves.
So why don't you just feast your eyes on these cakes and I will be nice and give you links as to where to get these cakes from.
